Which ONC-ATCB has certified my EHR : Does it make a difference?

Posted by EHR Analyst

Does it really matter which certification body has certified your chosen EHR? As long as you understand that ONC-ATCBs have no impact on the provisions that define which providers are eligible for incentive payments, how providers can achieve meaningful use goals, or how providers can apply for incentive payments, you can select pretty much any EHR that you are comfortable with, provided that it has received certification from an ONC Authorized Testing and Certification Body (ONC-ATCB).

There are currently six organizations that have been approved to certify that an electronic medical record (EMR) software system is capable of meeting the meaningful use requirements of the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act. Though all ONC-ATCB certifications are equal, the six bodies have different pricing models and differ in which types of modules they can certify. Though all six groups come from different backgrounds in software and medical requirements testing, they all go through similar certification processes with EMR vendors, including reviewing the certification application, providing pre-testing support, remote conference-based testing, and a quick turnaround after the initial testing results are submitted.

RevenueXL provides affordable EMR Solutions that are both CCHIT and ONC-ATCB certified.
